About

The New Life Development (NLD) program was created to fulfill a need that was long overlooked. This was the need of stable and sober housing for those returning from incarceration.  We have since grown into a residential program that not only provides housing, but also prepares participants for a life of independence, productivity and sobriety.  In 2013 our Women's program was dedicated in the name of the now late State Senator Bettye Davis.

New Life Development (NLD) is a non-profit 501c3 organization. We are not a halfway house, nor are we an agency of the state/federal government. We are also not a property management company or a landlord.  Our staff are not law enforcement agents, or corrections officers and do not act as such.  We are a social services organization, and to be more specific we are a "residential program" with the purpose of preparing vulnerable and disadvantaged populations to be independent and productive citizens.

Through a supportive, yet structured living environment, our program participants are given the foundation they need to begin repairing their lives.  Some of our participants are court ordered, or ordered by the Department of Corrections to be in our program. Others come because they have run out of options and will end up in jail or dead if they do not make a lifestyle change. Many come voluntarily because they know that we offer the supportive services that they will need to get back on their feet.

All applicants go through a background check and must be approved by New Life Development staff before they can become part of the program.  Space is limited so not all applicants are accepted. Applicants who are referred by a partner organization/agency usually get priority for acceptance.   If you are coming out of another institution, and would like to be considered for a space in the New Life Development program, talk to your Case Manager, Probation/Parole Officer, or Clinician about applying to the New Life Development program.

We can house up to 35 men between two separate facilities. and the 30 women at our one women's facility.
